We have worried for months about Switzerland's observation of quiet hours. You aren't supposed to flush your toilet after 10pm. There is no laundry after 9pm or on Sundays. You really aren't supposed to walk around your apartment at night. We just weren't sure how 3 kids and a dog would learn to be quiet, and I spent way too much time worrying about a quick indoctrination into the Swiss way of life for our little noisy family.
So, upon arrival, we were a bit surprised by the construction that goes on outside our temporary apartment's window. This is the view from our living room:
Here's the street level view:
The construction itself wasn't a surprise. The shuttle drivers said the street was a mess and it was "very noisy." What we failed to understand was that in an attempt to minimize the road closure, the construction is happening 24x7. It's 11pm at night and they are still breaking up concrete, on a Saturday.
I'm no longer worried that my dishwasher didn't finish running until 9:30pm.
